Gold Key Award Presented to A.A. in 1959. The Gold Key Award was established in 1959 by the National Council on Alcoholism (now known as National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of alcoholism on a national level. This organization was founded by Marty M., who was among the first women to achieve permanent sobriety in A.A. Bill W., A.A.’s co-founder, accepted the award on behalf of the Fellowship.
